Karen Nelson, PhD

Dr. Nelson is an OHGA Advisor where she offers specialized expertise and insights to help guide decision-making, shape strategies, and improve organizational outcomes. She is the Chief Scientific Officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific. She is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Microbial Ecology. She is the inaugural Editor-in-Chief for the newly launched PNAS Nexus. Dr. Nelson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, an Honorary Professor at the University of the West Indies and a Helmholtz International Fellow. Formerly, she was the President of the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) and was the head of the Microbiome group at Human Longevity Inc. Originally from Jamaica, Dr. Nelson received her PhD from Cornell University.
