Samuel Kariuki, DVM, PhD

VP for Research & Development

Prof. Kariuki is the VP for Research & Development where he oversees the research and innovation strategies that drive product development, technological advancements, and scientific discovery. He works for Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) initially as the Eastern Africa Director and now the Continental Lead for Africa. He previously served as the Acting Director General at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), a founding partner of DNDi. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, an Honorary Faculty Member at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and a Visiting Professor at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford. He is also a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group on AMR. With over 20 years of research on AMR and the epidemiology of foodborne pathogens, he is a globally recognized expert in the field.
